The task we had been given was to create a couple of still images which clearly displayed the genre we were given. In my group we were given the genre thriller, however we were told we had to include a female main role, due to this we decided on a member from our group (Grace) and started shooting.
When shooting, we came across many issues due to it being quite a light day outside, therefore, we couldn't necessarily get the lighting needed to make our shots have that element of unknown or fear for our audience, however we tried our best to still create a good shot even though the lighting may have ruined it. Another issue we faced was that no one in our group seemed to have that character profile to fit our genre but we still managed to come up with some good ideas to fit the genre.

The outfits used in this shot is atypical of a thriller, however, due to this being a small task we did within the class, therefore, her outfit does not tie in with our genre. If we were to recreate our shots I would make Grace dress in quite dark clothing, possibly a long dress to get the feel that she may be superior.
The lighting used for this shot is also incorrect as we had no control over the lighting due to it being outside however I would have a dramatic shadowing on her body with a small amount of light on her face.
Within our shots we had to have a thriller with a female lead so Grace was used due to the lack of females within our group so therefore, it fits in with the task however she may look a little innocent for a thriller.
Grace has very natural make-up meaning it ties in with the genre however, it would be a good idea if she has dark make-up around her eye creating more of a shadow.
We used the idea of the door to show her almost creeping and looking demon like towards the camera, this helps the audience establish that it part takes in the genre thriller. |

The lighting for this shot is also very bright as there was a window with a large amount of sunlight coming in therefore, we couldn't make the room any dark than what it already was.

The shot used for this was a low shot to make Grace seem superior to everyone and with the use of her hair being over her entire face it makes her seem scary and almost demon like again. |

The lighting of the shot is quite bright however there is quite a few shadows across her face which makes her face seem quite mysterious and with her eyes looking down we suggest she is looking at someone or something.

The use of the camera shot being a close up we're able to see Grace's expression and her emotions however, Grace's glasses are atypical of the genre thriller, therefore, the shot is almost not a lot like a thriller. The effect of the shot was not done on purpose however it is almost grey scale over the top, therefore, it makes it almost dark.

ReplyDeleteEBI: You should show the variety of shots you had. Also, you need to analyse each photo in detail, talking about camera, lighting, mise-en-scene and say how this links to genre.
