This film poster differs from a vast variety of movie posters as this is quite busy an full up but the first thing in which the audience will notice is the title of the movie '(500) Days Of Summer' this is placed in the centre of the poster in a very simple font with white colouring and a thin black outline to make it stand out from the busy background, however, the main feature of the poster would be the collage of the main character, who the audience will most likely assume is 'Summer', the use of the collage suggests its quite an original and indie movie, this helps the audience establish that the movie part takes in the 'romance' genre. As all the images are all of 'Summer' and there are none of the other main character 'Tom' and he appears to be in the bottom left hand corner drawing this could suggest that he admires her beauty and could possibly have an obsession with her.
Within the collage of summer there are a mass of images with many different emotions and body language, we do not know whether this is towards Tom, the opposing main character, or towards someone else but as the genre of 'romance' is suggested we guess that they may be towards him, this could suggest to the audience that it may not be a happy ending or a happy love story throughout. Tom is placed in the bottom left hand of the poster away from all the pictures of 'Summer' which could suggest a possible break up between the two characters. From Tom's body language we see he appears to be quite a quiet person and doesn't possibly open up to many people, he is also drawing which implies he is a creative character, which we find out to be true within the film and that his dream is to become a architect.
The colour scheme of the poster is fairly calm and contains a lot of colours in which we associate with the season summer and within the collage of summer there are some of the pictures with a yellow colouring which it patterned into the shape of the sun within the overall collage of 'Summer'.
The font use in the poster almost looks handwritten, this could suggest the arty side of film and gives the poster a more relaxed and casual feel which could suggest the over view of the movie. Both of the actors names are quite small and at the very top of the poster which could suggest that it implies that the direction isn't using Hollywood actors to just promote/sell his movie. Next to the image of 'Tom' there is a slogan that says 'This is not a love story. This is a story about love' which could suggest the message they're trying to get across, rather than it just having a boring romantic storyline.
Due to the title being '(500) Days Of Summer' I feel that the use of the collage suggests to the audience that throughout their 500 days of knowing each other 'Tom' finds out a lot about 'Summer' and could suggest that he may have seen her in 500 different ways.

www: You have given a detailed and effective analysis of the poster - you consider a variety of features in detail and discuss the effects of these, linking to the genre.
ReplyDeleteEBI: You could have considered how the collage links to the name '500 days', and how this could reflect the idea that we will see a variety of moments from their relationship.
